Target’s New Transgender Bathroom Policy

Target’s new policy on bathroom use is attracting mixed reactions from customers with some now calling themselves former customers. The company now allows transgender employees and guests to use the bathroom they most identify with.
The announcement was made on its website yesterday in response to recent debate around proposed laws in several states. The announcement reads: “we welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.”
The position has received sharp responses but Target says it believes in being inclusive and wants to make guests and staff feel accepted, respected and welcomed.
Target says it supports the Federal Equality Act, providing protections to LGBT individuals and opposing action that enables discrimination.
