Swim In For Autism
Sunday’s heavy rain didn’t stop many from taking a dip in the pool for The Mississippi Center for Autism and Related Development Disabilities held its sixth annual Swim In event.
The event raises autism awareness and is an opportunity for those diagnosed with the disease to build social skills. Gulf Coast families with children diagnosed with autism enjoyed a heated poll at the E-Fitness and Wellness Complex in Biloxi from 3 to 5 p.m. The center provided music and food for all who registered.
Parents also received informational sessions about behavioral management both in and out of the pool. Leslie Johnson with the Mississippi Center for Autism and Related Developmental Disabilities said, “There’s not a lot of venues for families to get together. It’s very important to be able to talk to other people who experience the same challenges and benefits of taking care of an autistic child.”
The IP Casino presented the center with a $10,000 check during the event.
