SWAT Situation in Gulfport

It was a scary moment for residents on 24th Street in Gulfport this morning after police shut down the road and a SWAT team surrounded a home with an armed man barricaded inside. War veteran Cody Landry was taken into custody and has been charged with simple domestic assault. News 25’s Katrina Luketich was on the scene and has the details.
Tense moments had residents on edge this morning as 24th Street was shut down for a little more than an hour after police received a call about a man pointing a long gun at someone in a possible domestic situation. Gulfport Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Damon McDaniel said, “When law enforcement personnel enter an area it draws attention and we did try to make sure that all the residents knew they need to stay near their residence, if not in their residence.”
That’s because when police arrived they did not know where the suspect, Cody Landry, was. After being unable to locate Landry immediately, Chief Papania gave them the go ahead for the SWAT team to enter the residence. They found Landry, along with a woman. Police then proceeded to arrest Landry without incident. “Being that I’m not in the medical profession, I am unable to make a statement as to his mental health but like I said before, the suspect was taken into custody without incident,” said Sgt. McDaniel.
Landry’s roommate, Reese Gatlin, tells News 25 that Landry is an Army war veteran who suffers from PTSD. Those who knew him were shocked to learn about this situation because they say they have never seen him go over the edge. Bryce Gatlin, the father of Landry’s roommate, said, “He’s been very stable. I see him every day. I saw him yesterday. As far as Cody has flipped out or something, I certainly don’t think it has happened. As far as I know, he’s fine.”
The scene was cleared by 10:30. No one involved in the incident was injured.
