Suspect who escaped Wiggins jail arrested
An 18-year-old Wiggins man arrested on three misdemeanors is now facing some felony charges after escaping on Monday night.
Police Chief Jeff Thomas said Brandon Montgomery was out of his cell and awaiting court in a conference room when he slipped out of his handcuffs and dove out a window. The escape happened about 7:30 p.m.
Police were searching for Montgomery when a Wiggins resident, Tyler Ball, said his ring camera alerted him about 10:15 p.m. of movement on his back porch and saw a man he believed to be the escapee.
He told the man to get out and the suspect fled.
Ball then called 911 and officers arrested Montgomery not far from Ball’s house.
In addition to the initial misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, possession of a weapon, and possession of marijuana, Montgomery now has additional charges of escape, disorderly conduct, and felony charges of burglary and possession of burglary tools.
His bond hearing is scheduled for today.
