Suspect wanted in fatal Gulfport shooting, victim identified

The Gulfport Police Department is searching for a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting Monday morning.

On May 6, 2024, at approximately 1:21 a.m., the Gulfport Police Department responded to the 9100 block of Highway 49 in reference to a shooting.

As officers arrived on scene, they located a male victim lying on the ground deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim has been identified by Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer as 40-year-old Charles Martell Oatis of Gulfport. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Antwon Duane Williams and the victim got into a verbal argument, and Williams brandished a firearm, fatally shooting the victim.

Williams currently has an active warrant for murder through the Gulfport Police Department. Williams is described to police officers as a 32-year-old black male, 5’06” tall, weighing approximately 146 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair. Williams should be considered armed and dangerous.
