Suspect killed in police stand off in Saucier identified
SAUCIER, Miss. (WXXV)-The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations has confirmed the identity of the suspect killed in Wednesday night’s police stand off in Saucier.
The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Jason Simmons.
The area of Saucier where this all took place, off Highway 67 and Turan Road, was on high edge Wednesday night, with law enforcement responding in full force. The standoff spanned several hours and it all began after shots were fired at officers.
Multiple units from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and members of the SWAT team responded to the scene.
The incident began around 6:30 p.m. when the sheriff’s office responded to the area for a court order. That’s when Simmons fired shots at officers before barricading themselves inside a shed.
Law enforcement was out there for most of the night, trying to get Simmons to come out of the structure. State troopers were blocking off parts of Highway 67.
It was around 10:30 p.m. before officials confirmed that Simmons was dead.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is saying the suspect displayed a gun towards Harrison County Sheriff’s SWAT members, which led to an exchange of gunfire.
Simmons died from injuries in that exchange; however, no deputies were hurt.
