A suspect in a murder that happened near Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort in September is in Harrison County jail.

18-year-old Karmelo Derks of Prichard, Alabama, is charged with first degree murder. He was extradited from Mobile after being arrested there in January on unrelated charges.

Another teen, 19-year-old Darrius Rowser Jr., of Mobile, also has been charged in the death of 36-year-old Nicholaus Craig, who was shot and killed on September 21, 2022. Rowser is not yet listed on the jail docket.

Craig, who had been living in California, had come to the Coast to celebrate his birthday at the casino before heading to Mobile to see family.

Police believe the shooting death was part of a robbery attempt.
