Suspect in fatal deputy-involved shooting in Hancock County identified

HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The person killed in Sunday morning’s deputy-involved shooting in Hancock County has been identified.
Hancock County Coroner Jeff Hair says the man is 51-year-old Willie Carroll of Cypress, Texas.
Hancock County Sheriff’s officials say they were called to the area of Old Gainesville Road and Highway 604 in Pearlington by a 911 caller, who told dispatchers that she was in a car, handcuffed and being held against her will by a man with a gun.
Once deputies arrived, they were able to rescue the woman, but a standoff with Carroll ensued, and the man ended up pointing his gun at deputies, at which point they opened fire, killing Carroll.
As with all officer or deputy involved shootings in Mississippi, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation into this shooting.
