Suspect dead after knife/hammer attack in Gulfport

GULFPORT, MISS. (WXXV)-We have exclusive details on an early morning knife and hammer attack on 21st Street in Gulfport.
Gulfport police tell us the suspect in this incident is dead and one of the victims suffered minor injuries.
Police received a call from a woman just after 7 a.m., saying someone was trying to break into her home.
The suspect then started attacking two people inside the home with a knife and a hammer.
That’s when one of the victims grabbed a gun and shot the attacker once. He later died at an area hospital.
According to Lt. Jason Ducre the suspect was out on bond for kidnapping. Both of the victims had a protection order against the suspect at the time of the incident.
The identity of the suspect has not been released at this time.
