Suspect changes plea prior to trial
An aggravated assault suspect set to begin trial this week changes his plea.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, 23-year-old Norman Joseph Tate pled guilty to separate charges of aggravated assault and possessing a weapon after a felony conviction.
Tate’s convictions stem from a January 2015 arrest when police found him in possession of a firearm. While awaiting the weapons charge, authorities say Tate and two others were charged with the aggravated assault of another inmate at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.
Video that was set to be put into evidence showed Tate heating a liquid in the jail microwave and throwing it on another inmate.
A judge sentenced Tate to a total of 20 years for both crimes.
