Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Comes to S. Mississippi
Since 1982, the Susan G. Komen organization has invested more than $2.5 billion into working to end breast cancer in the world through research, community health outreach, advocacy, and programs in more than 30 countries. Organizers are excited to bring this global event to south Mississippi.
Catherine Young, Executive Director of the Susan G. Komen Mississippi Affiliate, says, “We’ve to date have awarded Gulfport Memorial over $40,000 to provide free mammograms and educational programs, so we want those numbers to rise. We want other nonprofits to get involved and take part so we can distribute additional funds, so we can do greater things, and decrease the number, the mortality rate here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
WXXV is the top sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K on Saturday and will be walking with those at the event.
