Support for Gulfport police officers
Our local police officers are the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect and take care of our safety every day, but who takes care of them?
That’s where GCOPS steps in. Gulfport Community Organization Police Support or ‘GCOPS’ is a new non-profit organization with a mission to support the Gulfport police and their families in times of need with things like paying medical bills. They also hope to build morale within the department by hosting fundraisers and getting the officers together for a little friendly competition.
The group hopes to get people on board and together enhance the quality of life for these officers and let them know they’re appreciated for the work they do for the community. GCOPS Secretary Karen Gouin said, “They go out every day and support us with their lives and it’s hard. It’s a hard job and there are a lot of people in the Gulfport community who want to support them, a lot of them just don’t know how and that’s what GCOPS is for. We can do that. Come join us, become members, become board members.”
GCOPS is having a barbecue fundraiser next Thursday, May 25th at 5 o’clock in front of the Gulfport Police Department. Everyone is invited to come out and have a good.
