Supervisor says first female appointed to MS Senate paving the way
The appointment of the first woman to Mississippi congress today is “opening new doors” for female leaders in the state.
This is according to Harrison County Supervisor Connie Rockco who also broke a state barrier for women when she became the first female president on the State Board of Supervisors Association.
The announcement of Cindy Hyde-Smith’s appointment as the first female to represent Mississippi in the U.S. Senate comes in the middle of Women’s History Month. “She’s so qualified. She has been in the Senate. She’s also an agriculture commissioner. She has done international trade. She’s such a great person. It means that the doors are open, that we are welcome at the table and that we are going to move forward. We are going to move Mississippi forward and I’m very excited about it.”
Rockco tells News 25 she hopes this historic move helps pave the way for the next generation of women in the state.
