Supervisor Kim Savant Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy
Scandal involving the Harrison County Utility Authority has caused Supervisor Kim Savant, charged with conspiracy, to resign.
Savant’s resignation came hours before he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery. The U.S. attorney’s office says between January 2011 and January 2013, Savant, a member of the utility board, received $1,500 in cash per month from who the court called "Company A," to vote in favor of contracts for that company. Savant pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge.
Savant will be sentenced on March 26th, 2015 and is facing up to five years in prison. Savant’s term on the Board of Supervisors was to run through 2015, so in the upcoming weeks, the board will need to appoint someone to replace him.
