Super Bowl IXIV champions reunite
In today’s NFL climate of free agency and what have you done for me lately, players often find a second home by the time it’s all said and done, if not more. But when they win a Super Bowl together, that’s forever.
Even a future Hall of Famer like Drew Brees got his start with the San Diego Chargers before resurrecting his career in the Big Easy. Then on the flipside, Reggie Bush was the first-ever draft pick under the Sean Payton regime, but the former Heisman Trophy winner finished his days in the league with five other teams.
On Sunday, Bush headlined the Super Bowl 44 championship team homecoming at the Panthers game and afterwards, he was cruising around the locker room like he’d never left. “My favorite place in the whole world, the city of New Orleans. For the fans to receive us in the way that they did was special because the amount of work that we put in here, the blood, sweat and tears was reflective of the culture and the spirit of the city.”
“You win a Super Bowl, you walk together forever. And we accomplished that. And you feel like there’s a brotherhood that will always be there. And guys live in different parts of the country, and they have their families, they have their lives, they have all this stuff going on, you may not talk to them for a long time and yet when you get back together, it’s as if no time has passed,” said Bush.
Brees and Thomas Morstead are the only two players remaining in New Orleans from that Super Bowl run during the 2009 season.
