Summer in the Wild at Wild Acres

South Mississippi’s famous exotic animal farm, Wild Acres, continues to create new experiences to bring guests and animals together.

Summer fun isn’t just reserved for humans this year.  On August 14th and 15th, Wild Acres will be debuting its festival-like event Summer in the Wild, offering one-on-one interactions in a group setting for the first time.

Resident animals, including porcupines, capybaras, and reptiles, just to name a few, will be joining in on the summer activities. Wild Acres Co-Owner Jake Fletcher said, “This is going to be kinda our entrance to the event. So out here on the grounds to the pavilion and our aviary will be where we have vendors and music and food. Then through this barn we’ll open up the doors and then you’ll walk into the adventure of Wild Acres.”

Guests will have the opportunity to take selfies with Sammy the Sloth and learn more about some of the smallest and cutest animals on the farm. “We are going to offer live baby shows. So, we’ll bring out some of our baby ambassadors and we’ll talk about them and do a little educational presentation on all of our babies. And Boomer here is probably going to be the star of the show. He’s so cute!”

Tickets for Summer in the Wild are available through the Wild Acres Hands on Experience Facebook page. “When guests come out here, it’s not often– it’s probably a once in a lifetime experience that guests get hand to feed a sloth or hold a parrot or go in with a porcupine. So, with that, it also just teaches about these exotics that not a lot of people know about. And it gives that experience and it also sort of strikes a passion. Often times people leave and say I’m so excited and I can’t wait. I’m going to look for a macaw because I loved it.”

All of this will be taking place in the midst of an expansion at Wild Acres. In the coming months, the exotic animal farm will be welcoming a new Asia exhibit.
