Summer Food Service Program

School is out for summer but organizations on the Coast want to make sure every child is fed during the break.
The Biloxi Summer Food Service Program kicked off today with a party at the Point Cadet Plaza. Over 200 kids from the Coast played on bouncy houses, enjoyed face painting and ate a healthy meal.
This initiative to give free meals to children under 18 is driven by Feeding the Gulf Coast, The Mississippi Department of Education and Fuel Up to Play 60. Magnolia Health provided the funds for the groups to throw this event. Janine Harges with Magnolia Health said, “One out of four children in this region look for those meals each and every day. We want to make sure we’re bridging the gap to keep them fed, keeping them healthy and that’s one less thing the parents have to worry about during the summer months.”
The Summer Food Service Program feeds over 2,500 kids across the state of Mississippi.
