Students vandalize West Wortham Elementary School
Officials at West Wortham Elementary and Middle School are still assessing the extent of vandalism committed by students over the weekend.
The damage, which is expected to cost West Wortham somewhere around $30,000, was mostly done in the six portable classrooms located behind the school’s main building. Two students, aged 10 and 12, have already confessed to being involved in the acts.
The school’s principal Don Cuevas tells News 25 that throughout the day several other students have come forward to claim responsibility for the damage as well. “We had several buildings vandalized. We could tell it was children. They throw things all over the place and out there we have robotic equipment, we have smart boards, laptops, computers, desktops. It’s the hi-tech stuff that when it’s damaged, they cost a lot more to replace.”
Cuevas tells News 25 that after a quick assessment and cleanup, classes were held in the affected buildings this afternoon.
