Students at Hancock High arrested after bringing gun to school
Two students at Hancock High were arrested Wednesday evening after school officials learned the student brought a gun to campus.
The sheriff’s office said the students, ages 14 and 16, were arrested at home and the parents are cooperating.
The incident was reported to school officials after someone saw a picture on social media of the students showing off the gun at school.
Parents of high school students were notified via phone message that the incident happened.
According to the student handbook, a student who has a weapon on campus can be recommended for expulsion or placement at the alternative school.
The students will be suspended pending a disciplinary hearing. Any student who is expelled will not be allowed on campus and cannot attend any school activities, home or away.
