Student found with loaded gun on Stone High campus Wednesday

A student attending Stone High was arrested Wednesday after he was found with a loaded pistol in his waistband.

Stone County Sheriff Mike Farmer said the school got a call yesterday morning about a student with a gun. The school resource officer on campus and a school official found the student, who was carrying the .40 caliber Taurus pistol in his waistband.

Farmer said the boy, who is about 16 years old, told the officer he found the weapon. He also had a 9 mm round in the .40 caliber weapon.

He also did not give a reason for having the weapon at school. Police are trying to find out who owns the pistol.

The student was arrested and booked into the juvenile detention center.

According to the Stone High student handbook, a student having a weapon on campus can receive suspension, school probation or even expulsion.

WXXV has reached out to Stone County Superintendent Inita Owen for comment.
