Student Bringing Gun to School Presser

“Something significant was prohibited yesterday,” that’s what Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania had to say at a press conference today, addressing the questions of why a 14-year-old would bring a gun to school with over 100 rounds of ammunition and a mask.
Chief Papania did identify the gun the student brought to North Gulfport 7th and 8th Grade School. He says it was a 22 caliber ruger. Chief Papania says he’s not sure the intent of the teenager but the means were there for a school shooting similar to the Columbine shooting.
Chief Papania says it was another student who became aware of the gun and told a teacher. He says that student is a hero. “That kid’s a hero. That kid is a hero. That principal is a hero and that SRO is a hero and that’s what’s neat, we have heroes in our schools saving our kids. So, all we’re doing is having a conference about a gun we had.”
Chief Papania also says this should be a wake-up call for parents to be involved in their children’s lives and keep an eye on their social media accounts. He also says gun owners should secure their weapons.
