Structure fire on Channelside Drive
This afternoon, the Gulfport Fire Department responded to a call of a home fire.
The fire was reported on Channelside Drive inside the Waterside subdivision in Gulfport. Gulfport Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt says the fire started inside the kitchen.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and cleared out all the smoke to ensure there was no fire extension inside the home.
According to Beyerstedt, the homeowners were not home at the time of the fire, but neighbors tells us the couple had two pets whose conditions we are not aware of at the moment.
News 25 spoke to a neighbor who tells us about his initial reaction when he got the call about the fire. Neighbor Keith Williams said, “Very concerned, scared, didn’t know what happened. Thought maybe with the storm, lightning may have hit the house. On the drive over here when we found out it was not our house, it made us feel a little bit better, again great concern for our neighbors and what they’re going to have to endure to go through with either possibly the loss of their pets or their personal items and rebuilding. We are going to be here to do whatever we can to support them and help out.”
