Storm Causes Problems in Harrison County
When the rain finally stopped, Harrison County residents had much more to deal with than just high waters.
Residents living on Kensington Drive in Biloxi had their street blocked off for hours as crews worked to remove a tree that fell on a power line. Fortunately, the city reports no power was lost.
Drivers using Highway 90 were also met with problems. Sand from the beaches blew onto the road, creating hazardous conditions. MDOT worked throughout the day to remove the sand.
While the county expects to solve these problems by the end of the day, Biloxi sees more problems. Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “The bad news is, on a rain event like this, what happens is on our major infrastructure work that delays them about three days. Whenever we have a day like this or significant rainfall, it usually adds about three days of work, where they have to come in and pump out all of the water in the areas they’re working. As most people know, most of the streets in east Biloxi are dirt right now. So this really exacerbates that situation.”
Flooding was a slight issue in different parts of the county and county leaders say as the water recedes, they’ll open up more roads.
