Stopping crime one day at a time
Stopping crime may seem like a scary feat especially if you’re not a part of law enforcement.
The Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers make it easier for the community to get involved in the fight against crime. The group met with members of the Ocean Springs Lions Club today to share what Crime Stoppers is all about and also shared ways the public can use when it comes to reporting information about a crime which includes the Crime Stoppers hotline, their website, and the group’s free app where people can submit tips on a crime they may have seen. This information is then passed on to an investigative officer.
Crime Stopper leaders say the best part of this program is the anonymity it guarantees for those who would otherwise be reluctant to share information about crime. Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers Vice Chairman Kevin Felsher said, “The citizen is the most valuable asset to solving crime. There are a limited, finite number of policeman, but there are a multitude of thousands of citizens and if the citizens feel like they have an avenue to report crime and do so safely without fear of retribution we feel our program can be a great success.”
Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward if the information given leads to an arrest or grand jury indictment of a felony offender.
