Stone High baseball’s Gehrig Conard signs with South Alabama

If we had an ESPY inspired News 25 local sports award ceremony, clutch performance of the year would go to Stone’s Gehrig Conard.

With his father on his mind and in his heart, he took the ball in game one of the 4A quarter-finals and delivered a two-hit, complete game shutout.

In that moment, everyone in the stadium knew they had witnessed greatness and now that greatness is heading to the division I level.

This morning, the one they call G put pen to paper with South Alabama and even though he can handle the bat, it’s safe to say he’ll be pitching for the Jaguars.

Last season, the ace of the staff posted a record of 9-1 with an absurd 0.73 ERA to go along with 133 strikeouts in 77 innings of work.
