Stone falls to Laurel on last-second field goal in second round of MHSAA 6A playoffs
PERKINSTON, Miss. (WXXV) — Stone saw an outstanding 2025 season come to an end in the second round of the MHSAA Class 6A playoffs, as Laurel kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired to win 24-21.
The Tomcats struck first with a touchdown run by quarterback Zander Howard. The Golden Tornadoes tied it up, but Stone running back Ayden Green added a big rushing score late in the first quarter to give his team the 14-7 lead.
Laurel added another score in the second quarter to tie things back up at 14 heading into the locker room, and both teams traded scores in the second half. The Golden Tornadoes would pull off the win on the road with a 23-yard field goal as the clock expired to advance to South State.
Stone ended its season with an 8-4 overall record and as the 5A Region 4 district champions.
