Stone County Sheriff’s Department warning about scam

STONE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The Stone County Sheriff Department is warning the public about a scam going around.

The department said in a social media post that someone is posing as a sheriff’s deputy and calling about a payment for fines.

The scammer says if payment is not made over the phone, the victim will be arrested.

The sheriff’s department wants to remind everyone no deputy will ever request payment over the phone.

The office says if you do own money or fines, the Stone County Justice Court can be contacted to help assist in payment.
