Stone County honors Black History Month

Stone County honors Black History Month with a luncheon held in Wiggins. In attendance is the town’s Mayor Darrell Berry.

Elected in 2021, Darrell Berry made history as the first Black mayor of Wiggins. Today, Wiggins is approximately 30% African American, and Berry views his election as a testament of the progress the town has made in racial equality.

Pastor Leonard Galloway of New Zion Baptist Church in Wiggins served as a guest speaker at the luncheon, where he highlighted the importance of overcoming the divisions in our communities, big and small.

Public figures like Mayor Berry are pioneers in their communities, paving the way for future generations to follow.
