Stone baseball reschedules playoff series due to the passing of AD Kevin Conard

Much in the way that Brett Favre played the game of his life on Monday Night Football just a day after losing his father, Stone pitcher Gehrig Conard is just as brave, still taking the ball in Stone’s third round playoff game tomorrow night as a way to honor his dad in the biggest way possible.

The Stone High family is still reeling from the loss of Athletic Director and former Baseball Coach Kevin Conard, just one day after his tragic passing.

Instead of starting their playoff series against Purvis tonight, the Tomcats pushed it back a day to give everyone time to process the heartbreaking loss and perhaps even set the stage for the biggest game of Gehrig’s life.

That’s saying something considering the junior has been one of the state’s best pitchers in 2021, sporting a 0.66 ERA across 11 outings with a record of 9-1 and three no-hitters to his name.

Tomcats leading things off against Purvis at home 7 p.m. tomorrow. They flip it back to the Pine Belt for game two at 3 p.m. Saturday before welcoming Purvis back for a winner-take-all game three at 7 p.m. Monday if necessary.
