Stepping up and saving lives: Local hero recognized by Biloxi police
An act of selfless service is how Corey Griffin describes his heroic efforts on December 1st at the coliseum. Now, after getting in touch with the Biloxi Police Department, this Good Samaritan has been identified, but he wants nothing more than to save lives on the Coast.
The Biloxi Police Department looked to identify a Good Samaritan for his help in assisting officers to safely secure a man running into traffic on Highway 90. Nearly two weeks ago on the way home from a Christmas parade with his wife and kids, Corey Griffin noticed an altercation on the side of the road. “There were two officers struggling with a man and I wanted to help them.”
Griffin proceeded to park in the turning lane, turn his hazards on in the middle of the street to help the Biloxi Police Department restrain the subject and transport him to medical evaluation. “I held him down for them so they can get restrains on him, help get him in the car and they were good to go.”
When asked why he helped, Griffin simply said it was an act of selfless service, something he learned while serving in the military. “It’s doing something without recognition. Like I said, when I got done, I went about my day.”
Now, the Biloxi Police Department wants to recognize Griffin at an award ceremony, but all he wants is an opportunity to become one of the men in blue. “Doing it out of the goodness of my heart, with everything going on nowadays, a lot of people want to film altercations instead of stepping up to help and I’m type of guy to step up and help.”
