Stennis International Airport celebrates winning 2021 Facility of the Year

Stennis International Airport in Hancock County had a lot to celebrate today.

Air traffic control at Stennis International Airport won the 2021 Robinson Aviation Air Traffic Control Facility of the Year.

Air Traffic Manager David Kaupp tells News 25 it’s great to receive the award, considering it was out of 102 other facilities.

Stennis International Airport played a key role in helping Louisiana in September 2021. “During Hurricane Ida, we organized relief efforts down to Houma. We took over 2,500 pounds of goods down there for that, sent down cash for people to buy what we didn’t send down there.”

Stennis International Airport won facility of the year, but they were also recognized in several other categories as well. Robinson Aviation Vice President Jim Slate said, “Each year they put out pilot surveys and based on those they scored 993 out of a possible thousand points on a customer service and on the airport management survey they scored a perfect score.”

The airport was finally able to celebrate and receive the plaque since COVID kept them from getting the award. “It’s rewarding and humbling. It’s one of those things that it’s nice to be recognized for the work you do, but it’s also humbling, the acknowledgement you get.”
