STEM camp for local youth in Jackson County

Young campers in Jackson County are getting an introduction into the world of STEM.

The City of Gautier Parks and Recreation is teaming up with Old School Tutoring and Toys, hosting a weekly camp for kids interested in the world of science, robotics, themed art, and engineering.

This week, children were learning how to construct and operate bottle rockets, create galaxy slime, and customize their own ceramic rocket ships.

David Bates with Old School Tutoring and Toys is pleased to be providing more enrichment opportunities for the youth throughout Jackson County.  “One of the biggest things is when parents tell you they can’t wait to come back next week. So, being an educator for 15 years now, it’s just fun to be able to see them have fun and learn. You know often working in the schools, everything is so structured, but out here we kind of get to do education our way.”

Wacky Wednesday is held Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gautier Sportsplex. The space is provided by Gautier Parks and Recreation.
