Staying warm for now, but changes come this weekend

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the forecast for south Mississippi

Tonight is looking clear and mild across South Mississippi, with temperatures dropping to around 68 degrees.

We could see some fog develop toward daybreak Thursday morning, so keep that in mind if you’re heading out early. However, any fog should clear by around 9 a.m. Thursday, giving us a partly sunny start before sunshine takes over later in the day.

Highs will reach around 84 degrees, with a light southeast breeze and a few more clouds by Thursday night. Things are still staying dry with lows near 68.

Friday will be another warm one, with plenty of sunshine and afternoon highs climbing to around 87 degrees. Enjoy it while it lasts, because a cold front will bring a noticeable change Friday night!

Cooler Temperatures Arrive This Weekend

Winds will shift to the north Friday evening as the cold front moves through. They’ll also pick up, with gusts potentially reaching 30 mph! Temperatures will fall into the upper 50s overnight.

Saturday will be sunny but much cooler, with highs around 73 degrees. It’ll also be breezy, with north winds around 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. If you’re spending time outside, be prepared for those stronger winds, especially in open areas.

Those stronger winds could make for a choppier ride out on the Mississippi Sound and especially in the open Gulf. If you’re planning to head out on the water this weekend, check the latest marine forecast and watch for any Small Craft Advisories before leaving the dock.

The cooler weather will stick around through Sunday, but the sunshine isn’t going anywhere. Highs will reach around 75 degrees Sunday, with overnight temperatures dipping into the lower 50s Saturday night.

A Sunny Start to Next Week

We’ll gradually warm back up as we head into next week. Highs will reach around 78 degrees Monday before climbing into the lower 80s Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight lows will generally stay in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Northeast winds will remain noticeable at times, but overall, we’re looking at a quiet stretch of weather with plenty of sunshine and no rain expected in this forecast.

Tropical Outlook: No Development Expected

There are currently no active tropical cyclones in the Atlantic basin, and tropical development is not expected over the next seven days. We’ll continue monitoring the tropics as hurricane season progresses.
