Staying safe while traveling over the Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day marks the end of summer for many as they return to school.

While making plans to travel over the weekend, MDOT wants to remind everyone to keep safe driving a top priority.

The department’s goal is to keep the traveling public safe by monitoring the state’s highways and encouraging safe travel.  “Hi, I’m Michael Flood with MDOT. Labor Day Weekend typically marks the end of summer, but for the many that just can’t wait to get back on the road again – safe driving should never take a break. This can be one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. Here are a few tips to make sure everyone reaches their destination safely. Make sure everyone buckles up and make sure all small children are safe and secure in car seats appropriate for their size. Don’t drink and drive and always plan ahead for a designated driver. Allow enough travel time so you can safely surrender to the flow of traffic, obey speed limits, and never drive distracted. If you’re traveling this weekend, know before you go and ensure your trip is short. Download the MDOT traffic app for real time traffic updates and be sure to follow @MISSISSIPPIDOT on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.”
