Staying safe during holiday travels

Slamming drinks before driving will land you in the slammer. Mississippi Highway Patrol is advising motorists to slow down, stay alert, and drive sober this new year.

Trooper Cal Robertson tells News 25 that Troop K on the Gulf Coast had more than 400 incidents on state roadways this time last year.

From December 30th to January 2nd at midnight, state troopers will be out en masse targeting problem areas on highways.

They’ll be using every available officer to look out for drunk drivers and speeders. I-10, Highway 67, and Highway 49 are among the top areas for speeding complaints. “Motorists can expect to see a higher number of troopers out, and we just ask motorists to have their driver’s license ready, have their insurance with them, and I try to remind people of the fatal four — don’t drink and drive, don’t drive impaired, be sure you obey the speed limit and be sure you always buckle up.”

This is part of a yearly statewide effort to keep Mississippians safe on the road.
