Statue in front of Miner’s Doll and Toy Store missing

A mainstay of Downtown Ocean Springs is missing.

The statue of two children on a tricycle was stolen from in front of Miner’s Doll and Toy Store on Washington Avenue sometime between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

The bronze statue was presented to the original owners John and Maryalice Miner in honor of their 90th birthdays.

The purpose of the statue was to reflect the family’s beautiful spirit of play and dedication and commitment to the community over the years. Owner Merileigh Miner Furr said, “This statue is very valuable. Tourists love it and get their pictures taken with it. The children climb on it. The adults are inspired by the playfulness of the statue and it’s a symbol of all things that are good. So, we’re very devastated by the theft of the statue and we hope that it is returned. We ask everyone to help us get the statue back.”

Ocean Springs police are asking anyone who knows what happened to the statue to call the station at 228-875-2211 or contact Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
