Statewide Reading Initiative

Government education officials released the date for the announcement of the statewide reading initiative.
On November 29th, officials will unveil a statewide initiative adding greater emphasis on grade-level reading. This comes in light of Mississippi’s literacy-based promotion act.
State law requires a student scoring at the lowest achievement level on the third grade reading summative assessment to be held back in the third grade unless that student meets the good cause expectations laid out in the law.
The campaign for grade-level reading is also playing a part in the announcement. They hope to help communities and schools collaborate to promote opportunities for students to improve reading skills.
