Statement on Senator Cochran’s Victory

Senator Thad Cochran’s statement on his reelection to the United States Senate:

Thank you. I am humbled and grateful for your support. I’m especially honored by the trust you have placed in me to continue serving you in the United States Senate. I will continue focusing on representing all Mississippians—because I truly believe that Mississippi is worth fighting for.

As we all know, it’s been a long and interesting campaign. I’m proud of Mississippi and the people of our state who spent their time and energy to participate in this election.

This election brought a lot of interest and enthusiasm to the political process. It’s a good thing for our democracy to have more people involved because it helps keep government accountable.

I want to congratulate Travis Childers on a good campaign, and for his service to our state.

No matter who you voted for today, I want you to know that I’m committed to doing my best to represent Mississippi in the United States Senate and to reflect credit on our state. Our nation faces many challenges but by working together, I’m optimistic we can get America back on the right track.

We must protect our national security to make sure country is free from threats at home and abroad.

That’s why we need to do everything we can to support our men and women in uniform who are protecting our freedom. Mississippians play a key role in our national defense structure and I know all of you join me in thanking them for their service to our country.

We must also focus heavily on job creation efforts to bring more opportunities for economic growth to our state and our country. With fewer regulations and less government interference in our daily lives, our economy will grow with more prosperity for everyone.

Tonight is a time when we should all come together as Mississippians, as one state, as one voice, to make sure our state is well-represented for the future. For my children and grandchildren—for you, your children and grandchildren—it’s a time to move forward.

It’s a time when we focus on things other than ourselves—putting aside our differences and putting our best foot forward for Mississippi’s future. That’s my continued commitment to you, and I thank you for your support and this victory tonight.

Thank you!
