State reports more than 3,000 COVID cases for second day

More than 3,000 COVID cases were reported for Aug. 10, according to the state Department of Health, with 25 deaths also reported in the state.

One of those deaths was in Jackson County and two were in Pearl River County.

The rise in COVID cases continues to tax hospitals in the state. The Level 1, 2 and 3 hospitals on the Coast are at capacity for ICU beds, the state said Tuesday.

It is the second straight day that more than 3,000 cases have been reported in Mississippi. Today’s count stands at 3,163.

For the same period, Memorial Hospital at Gulfport reported 80 hospitalized with the virus with 17 in ICU and 13 of them on ventilator. They had a 90% unvaccinated rate.

At Singing River Health System, 128 people were hospitalized with COVID, 28 of whom were in ICU and 21 of those on vents. Of those cases, 119 were not vaccinated.
