State of the County Address provides updates on Harrison County
At the IP Casino in Biloxi, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce hosted the Harrison County State of the County Address.
The Harrison County Board of Supervisor President Rebecca Powers detailed the new developments and economic progress of the county over the past year.
Powers delivered updates on all of the county’s departments and employee number count. She detailed information on many projects under developments, highlighting the super convenient store Buc-ee’s coming to the county next year.
Powers also delivered statistics on various departments and the state of those departments. Lastly, she detailed the county revenues and expenditures which generated over $182 million this past year.
Powers says even though economically the county is flourishing, the focus is on the youth and taking care of its citizens. “If we could build every child strong and help parents who are broken have a better life with their children. We can actually do that. That is my laser focus at all times. You cure all the money we’re flushing down the toilet and our morgues, our jails, our mental health. Build that base that foundation of every strong child and family. Then the mental health crisis ten, twenty years from now won’t be the crisis it is today.”
The supervisors say the county has placed an emphasis on its recreational centers to give youth an outlet through physical activity.
