State Legislature convenes today in Jackson

In Jackson, the gavel fell signaling the start of the 2023 State Legislative Session.

After a busy 2022 session that tackled many important issues, lawmakers this year will be focusing on funding for rural hospitals, debates over the state’s income tax, and more infrastructure proposals among others.

This is the last regular session before statewide elections later this year and it’s expected to be the final regular session for longtime Speaker Philip Gunn, who announced his retirement a few months ago.
