State flag film focuses on peaceful conversation
A small crew of local activists are taking a unique approach in trying to resolve Mississippi’s controversial flag issue.
Through a documentary series, two activists from Biloxi are hoping to break down barriers through respectful conversation surrounding both sides of the dispute over Mississippi’s state flag.
“Confederate Pride, White Supremacy, and my State Flag” is part one of the documentary by the Moral Courage Project. The documentary was inspired from one of the activists’ controversial protest against Mississippi’s Confederate Heritage Month.
The two working on part two of the documentary say their goal is to motivate Mississippi residents to come to a peaceful agreement over the issue. Activists Genesis Be said, “There’s a lot more issues that our generation are dealing with, we’re dealing with addiction. Our veterans aren’t getting funded properly, art programs aren’t in schools. There’s a whole list of things that we have to tackle, but how can we tackle if we’re divided over this flag. There has to be some sort of compromise in order for Mississippi to move forward.” Activist Louis McFall said, “We should be coming together as a nation, working together for reconciliation and find a way for peace.”
The activists in collaboration with the moral courage project started filming part two of the documentary Sunday in Biloxi.
