State Department of Revenue warning of phishing scam

The State Department of Revenue is warning the public about a phishing scam targeting taxpayers.

These scams are being sent out via text message.

The Department of Revenue warns that texts are being sent that appear to be from them or the Department of Motor Vehicles saying that your refund has been approved.

It asks for payment information and might include a warning about unpaid traffic violations, outstanding toll charges, or fines owned.

A reminder that Mississippi roadways do not have any tolls.

The department says they will never request payment or personal banking information via text.

If you do receive a text, you are advised not to click any links that appear. You shouldn’t respond to the text either. The best course of action is to delete the text.
