Standing Rainwater Causes Concerns

The weather continues to cause headaches for residents of low lying areas all over the Coast.
Since the steady rainfall began on Tuesday, street flooding has been reported throughout the coastal counties.
This afternoon, News 25 spoke with a few citizens in a Gulfport neighborhood where an estimated 6.4 inches of rain had fallen overnight, overflowing the drainage systems and covering the streets with water. Gulfport resident Felecea Kirsh said, “This morning when I got up, I didn’t even want to come, because I didn’t know how high it was and my car sits low. I didn’t want it to flood out or whatever. I get up to go to work at 5 o’clock and it was past the stop sign, all this was flooded. Over there where the low lines were, that was all flooded.”
People living in neighborhoods near the Olivet-Tandy Drive area say the city needs to revisit the drainage system which frequently contributes to flooding.
