Staff member for Representative Bennie Thompson dismissed following social media post
Representative Bennie Thompson has confirmed that case manager and field director Jacqueline Marsaw no longer works for his office.
This comes after a controversial social media post was made on a Facebook account connected to Marsaw following the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump.
The post on Marsaw’s account read, “I don’t condone violence but please get you some shooting lessons so you don’t miss next time ooops that wasn’t me talking.”
The post was deleted around one hour later, but not before it received nationwide backlash. The Mississippi GOP even demanded in a post on X that Marsaw be removed from her position.
Thompson quickly responded to the criticism.
“I was made aware of a post made by a staff member and she is no longer in my employment,” Thompson said in a statement to CNN Sunday afternoon.
At least one statewide official — State Auditor Shad White — is calling on Thompson to give up his House of Representatives seat as a result of this situation. White made a post on his X account saying that Thompson, “Should resign today.”
So far, no comment has been made by Marsaw regarding the deleted post.
