St. Stanislaus ends 2023 one win away from 3A State Championship in season to remember

PEARL, Miss. — On Saturday, the St. Stanislaus baseball team ended the 2023 season one win away from its third state championship in program history, but Amory proved to be too much in a 6-2 winner-take-all 3A Game 3 defeat at Trustmark Park in Pearl.

The Rock-a-Chaws took a 1-0 lead six pitches into the game off the bat of Ole Miss signee Seth Farni, who hit a towering home run to left field to lead things off. A few batters later, Jeremy Mares sent Hugh LeMasters to the dish with an RBI single through the left side.

However, that 2-0 lead would not last, with most of the damage coming in a five-run bottom of the fourth for the Panthers. Overall, only two of Amory’s six runs were earned.

SSC won state championships in 2010 and 2015. Amory’s win avenges a loss to the Rocks in the ’10 state finals.
