St. Patrick’s Tim McDaniel named Coach of the Year

St. Patrick Cross Country Coach Tim McDaniel has been a part of 15 state championships in his life and this year, one of those titles earned him some high praise on the national scale.

Yesterday, Coach McDaniel was named Coach of the Year for Mississippi by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross County Association.

Now, McDaniel is the head man for girls and boys with both programs having won the MHSAA 2A State Championship back in November.

Even though there’s an ‘I’ in Saint, and Patrick, and Irish, He says it’s still a team award. “Shout out for the girls is that they put their personal preferences aside and they went ahead and collectively got together and decided that they were going to win this championship together as a team, and then came together as a team and put their individual accomplishments aside to make sure they did it as a team to accomplish that type of goal. So to win a high school it takes sacrifices from each athlete to make that happen and they did that.”

McDaniel also won a coach of the year award from the MHSAA in 2006.
