St. Mary Catholic Church drops off paper goods for seniors in Harrison County
St. Mary Catholic Church officially wrapped up what looked to be its most successful annual paper goods drive yet.
Overall, the church collected 3,005 packages of paper products. The church collected 1,353 packages of adult diapers, 1,179 packages of toilet paper, 406 packages of paper towels, and 67 packages of cleaning supplies.
This year, the church partnered with high school seniors from St. Patrick Catholic School as part of the students’ community service projects.
All of the goods will be brought to seniors in Harrison County that are already receiving social services such as Meals on Wheels. Thad Anderson with Knights of Columbus/ St. Mary’s Catholic Church said, “It’s fulfilling to us because we are helping people meet their needs and we are giving back to the community for all of the good things we’ve had and that’s a good thing for us. It’s overwhelming to see how generous people are and we’re glad to do this and I want to encourage other churches in other areas, perhaps in other counties, to do the same thing.”
The total supplies collected this year is nearly five times more than when the drive first began about four years ago.
