St. Martin wins inaugural Girls Flag Football State Championship!
The celebrations continued over in Picayune as one local team made history! Two coast teams in George County and St. Martin played in the first ever girls flag football State Championship game.
Yellowjackets lead already 12-0 and St. Martin sealed the deal with recently offered Quarterback Jalyn Ngyuen handing the ball off to Brianne Sanders and that girl is gone! It’s a 50 yard house call by Sanders and the Yellowjackets are your 2025 Girls Flag Football State Champions, the first to claim the title in the entire state!
“It feels great. It feels amazing,” said Senior wide receiver and middle linebacker Yvette Nathan. “I’m so excited. I’m proud of my team. I’m proud of my coaches. I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous, but I knew we were going to get here. I had faith in my team. We did amazing.”
“This honestly means the world,” said junior wide receiver Brianne Sanders. “It’s a crazy moment. The first time ever and we’re making history and it’s just a crazy feeling. I’m ecstatic and overjoyed. I can’t stop smiling, it’s just so crazy.”
“I coach boys basketball, so I’ve had hundreds and hundreds of young men that I call my sons, and I now have about 25 daughters,” said St. Martin Head Coach Charlie Pavlus. “I know my daughter doesn’t want to share, but I love these girls and I’m just thankful and appreciative of all the moments that we had together and we’re taking the team to Universal Studios and Disney. We’ve been raising money for that and being able to do that, so we’ll be taking that trip and celebrating a State Championship while we’re there.”
