St. Martin High School drone team wins regional competition

The St. Martin High School drone team won first place at the Aerial Drone Championship held over the weekend in Jackson.

The team of five, made up of sophomores and freshmen, had maintained the 10th position throughout the competition.

However, in the final round, they were selected by another team to form an alliance. Together they secured victory.

This is a historic achievement for the St. Martin High School drone team as it is their first year participating in the competition. Co-pilot Michael Gentry said, “It was amazing considering we only practiced a total of four times and competed in one competition before. It was euphoric, amazing feeling.”

Pilot Stephen Jordan said, “We had good coordination with our alliance partners so our drones could fly in tandem with each other. So, we could get a lot done and our opponents couldn’t handle what we were doing.”

Congratulations to the St. Martin High School drone team, also called the Flying Unicorns, on their outstanding victory.
